Long Camp

Long Camp 2008 dates: Sat 26th July to Wed 6th August - More Details

Every summer the Scout Troop goes away for a 12 day 'Long Camp'. Over the past few years we have varied the style of camp from year to year to add a bit of variety into what we do, as well as give the scouts a wider range of experiences.

At least every other year we run a 'traditional' style camp where the patrols sleep in canvas Patrol Tents, cook on wood fires and do predominantly scouting activities such as bivouac building, pioneering, backwoods cooking, etc

In the other years we try and do something a bit 'different'. In recent years that has seen us take the whole group to Canada for a two week camp to make the beginning of the new millenium and going by train from Bolton to Mallaig and doing a tour of the Outer Hebrides and using buses, ferries and on foot and we also had a more 'holiday' style camp at Instow in North Devon, with surfing and other trips out.

For last year's camp we decided to go abroad to do something a bit different as our way of celebrating the 100th anniversary of Scouting. We are stayed at a Scout Centre near Rotterdam which we have visited in the past for Easter Camps.
